A non governmental organization ‘Community Initiatives to Promote Peace ‘ CIPP has trained journalists from different media platforms and social media users on ways to promote peace in their respective communities.
The USAID funded NGO, stressed the vital role media practitioners should play to de escalate conflicts.
During the one day training, the resource person, Dr Jide Jimoh, urged journalists to avoid using sensitive words or phrases while covering violent conflicts in order not to trigger reprisals.
Correspondent Abdullahi Isah who participated at the training, report that the goal of the project is to empower communities to prevent and respond to violence and violent extremism by harnessing the role of women in peace building in conflict communities.
